putting animals first

ethics and welfare insights and strategies to improve animal welfare

Emma Milne Ethics and Welfare

Whatever your connection with animals may be, their welfare is the top priority.

Animal welfare is what drives us to become vets and nurses. Love for animals is what drives people to take animals into their lives and homes, and to care for them as part of the family.

The human-animal bond is a powerful thing, and it is the reason that hundreds of jobs with animals exist and the reason we love to keep pets. But it’s important that it is not a one-sided relationship. Knowing the needs of the animals we want to keep is essential. Overall health is made up of physical, emotional and cognitive health. Get these right and you have a great life, worth living, which is what we all want for our animals, as well as us!

In every capacity in which we interact with animals, health and welfare should always be at the top of our priority list. That can be a challenge in clinic as well as at home.
